Telehealth Podiatry Consultations are Here
Telehealth podiatry consultations are now available at Posture Podiatry. Medicare and DVA are both offering clients the opportunity to receive specific health care analysis and advice via video consultation (and via telephone in the absence of video access). Medicare and DVA rebates will only be available for a limited time during the COVID-19 crisis.
Some private health insurance funds are also offering health rebates.
Please note: Medicare clients and DVA clients still need a current GP referral. Private clients DO NOT need a referral.

Bulk-billed Medicare-Subsidised Telehealth Services
On 29th March 2020, the Minister for Health Greg Hunt released stage 4 of the temporary MBS item numbers for telehealth – these now include Allied Health services including podiatry. These item numbers have been made effective as of Monday 30th March. The Department of Health press release can be found here.
Key points to note for podiatry services are as follows:
- Specific telehealth item numbers have been created for telehealth consultations and are specifically for the treatment of chronic disease. They apply only to patients who are on a chronic disease management plan (CDM). These patients are now able to be treated via telehealth.
- Video conferencing is the preferred method for the treatment, however, audio only is available if the practitioner or patient do not have access to videoconferencing.
- The item numbers below are to be used in place of the regular face to face MBS item number for podiatry (10962):
- COVID-19 Telehealth video-conference: 93000
- COVID-19 Telephone items for when video-conferencing is not available: 93013
- Any services claimed via telehealth must be bulk billed. No gap can be charged for telehealth services funded by Medicare.
- All current requirements in treating patients on a CDM remain in place. Knowledge of the requirements for treating patients on a (CDM) can be found in the education article here.
- Current medicare provider numbers are used to conduct telehealth services.
